The Transmitter Building and Tuning House for the AM station still sits at the far rear of the property of Broadcast House, although, according to aerial photos; the Transmitter Building and Tuning House seem to be surrounded by overgrown trees; since the AM station was granted Class B status, had increased its Effective Radiated Power (ERP) to 50 kilowatts; and moved to a new Transmitter Site in 2002.

I go futher back than that... I used to perform on Soupy's Sales evening show (LIVE) from the first floor of the Macabee's Building on Woodward across from the DIA, Hal Gormen had the band and Rue Weiss was "Shouting Shorty" and Peter Strand was EX. Producer who hated Rock and Roll. In fact, he wanted me to sing,"Pennies From Heaven? instead of a '50's Rock song. It's a fact, that the Producer in New York also told Elvis to sing the same song, "Pennies from Heaven" instead of Heartbreak Hotel for his first network appearance,
Bur, I sure miss WXYZ being the leader in live entertainment and at that time,WXYZ paid the entertainers to perform.

When Broadcast House was constructed and opened, the site contained new broadcast towers for the AM side. They re-located from the northwest corner of Joy Rd. and Greenfield Rd. The site was developed into a discount department store upon the re-location. As of 2015, several retail establishments occupy the site, including fast food emporia.

I wish Silver Oaks would take care of their tenants much better than they do. Mainly when it come to our safty. I've been living here thirteen years and this is the worst I've seen it yet. I live alone and my water bill is so high and I can't understand it. I wouldn't advise anybody to move here right now, because they don't keep their word.

On 13 October 1830, Samuel D. Beekman, from New York City, purchased land in Section 12 of Southfield Township. Later, he set off 100 square feet for a burying ground in which his family members, and others, were buried. Later, Mr. Fons bought the land, eventually opened Southfield Downs Trailer Park, and the gravestones gradually disappeared. In 1963, two boys found the broken tombstone of Samuel Beekman "in a thicket south of the trailer park." (Four Corners Press/Southfield News, 14 November 1963, p. 1)

Allegedly the first regional shopping center in the US (many other malls take that claim). This mall opened in 1954 with a large Hudson's department store. Hudson's became Marshall Field's in 2001 and Macy's in 2006. Other anchors include National Wholesale Liquidators and Target.

The Southfield Public Library is more than just a library - it has a castle made out of books, cozy fireplaces, a cafe and you can bring in covered drinks while reading or working on a computer.
